Get the jab

My llama son, when he was whelped from Mrs Llama all those years ago was given the standard immunisations at birth.  He had an adverse reaction to one.  The whooping cough, pertussis.  His brain swelled and caused pressure in his head and he had a high pitch squeal for several hours as the pain must have been horrible for him.

We didn’t do any follow up vaccinations for pertussis.  There were no long term effects from his adverse reaction.

I still don’t get why people don’t have their children vaccinated.  What happened to llama son was very rare, and he was at risk of getting whooping cough from some other unvaccinated child who didn’t get the jab because his parents thought it was too great a risk.  The misinformation about vaccinations abounds around the internet.  However, it has to be said that a vast majority of people survive the process with little impact on their lives.  Get the jab for crying out loud.

He was vaccinated against pertussis, but vaccines are never 100% effective. He caught the disease from an unvaccinated playmate. “He was as sick as any child I’ve ever seen,” his mother said, and he had to take drugs for four years to recover. Read more & more

That’s pretty disturbing. Not having someone vaccinated is just plain irresponsible and selfish.

I wonder what kinda exclusions will happen in schools from hereon in..

I mean, you have schools going wholly ‘nut free’ (which makes me wonder, what do these kids do when they get older and still have the allergy in the nut-covered wider world?) so perhaps if a bad enough bug comes along, that there’ll be an inverse exclusion and unimmunised kids will be excluded from in person attending.

Well.. that’s probably a little extreme.. but during a pandemic where a tested vaccine has been released, I can potentially see it happening.

I guess I’m definitely biased t’ward the pro-immunisation side of things being the son of two medical folk. As kids my folks were on the front line in the town and we generally got what was goin’ around pretty quick 🙂 .. Upside I guess is my immune system’s probably doin’ pretty darn well heh.

Thanks Anthony. Welcome. I guess parents have a twisted view of reality. The reason there is less incidents of a whole range of diseases is because people have been immunised. They’re piggy backing off those who have gone before, that’s pretty damn arrogant if you ask me.

And so say all of us

  4. They don’t get them vaccinated for a variety of reasons, but I think complacency ranks highly amongst them. Modern medicine has made life too damn easy 🙂
