Howard successfully avoided doing anything about gay rights in his long period in the top job. He managed to enshrine in law that marriage is between one man and one woman.
He’s gone – swept from office – and his replacement, within the week, is talking about gay rights and how something should happen. Where the hell have you been?
Still, actually letting two men or two women form a family is on the outer. Marriage is described as the foundation of our society. I’m not at all sure what that means, and I wonder why that foundation would crumble if two men should get married and want to have children.
Still, this is a good move forward to finally have a political leader in Australia prepared to make such a bold statement. Now is the time to fix things, before those bloody christians start flexing their muscles again.
