Water for the Rich

[SOURCE]

Here’s a nice idea.  Charge people scarcity pricing for water.  That means if there’s not much water about, then you get charged more for its use.  The National Water Commission thinks that would be better than just trying to restrict water through water restrictions.  I think it means that those that can least afford it will have to go without, while those that can afford it will use it for their nice green lawns.

Doesn’t anybody think through this stuff?

The South African experience in making people pay for every drop was disastrous for the locals [SOURCE]  Suddenly millions of people had water cut off because they couldn’t afford it.  While I’m not suggesting that this is the plan on the books, its a scary thought that one of life’s most important resources use will not be base on need, but on how much you can pay.

I think that’s just plan wrong.
