Condoms and AIDS

The evidence on preventing AIDS is clear | theage.com.au.

Its not secret that I think the pope and cardinal hell are wrong when it comes to condoms and AIDS.

I was banging on about it in this blog and this one. I’ve been saying that someone needs to yell at them a bit and sort them out.

I’m delighted that Mike Toole and Rob Moodie in The Age have taken the crusty flapping dress wearers to task.

The first paragraph sums it up so well:

CARDINAL George Pell’s Easter message that condoms have contributed to Africa’s AIDS problem by encouraging promiscuity is not consistent with the evidence, and is dangerous.

You hear the George babes? Its dangerous. They go on to list a range of statistics to back up their argument. Solid hard facts backed up with real statistics.

They conclude their argument by stating two very obvious points, that clearly need to be made again and again as the religious types just don’t get it:

Given the evidence, it is irresponsible to suggest that condoms are ineffective. To suggest that condoms increase promiscuity is an old argument for which there is no evidence.

This is the sort of information that the media needs to get and give prominence too. The stupid words muttered by the pope and his cohorts all to often go unchallenged in the media. The sensationalism of the story is in their rhetoric, there is little value to a newspaper in disproving their crap, its all rather dry and dull.

I’m hoping that the powers to be read the Opinion pages in The Age and that just perhaps some of those well meaning catholics, you know, the ones who actually do the work of helping others, begin to agitate and take their silly hat brigade to task for their stupidity. It makes all catholics look like thick slices of ham stuck on a stick and left out in the sun to dry.
