What shall I do with my stimulus?
Well, I dragged out the big “New Season” catalogue from Target to see how I could spend my money. Sorry, the Governments money.
I could buy a “Easy Being” Iron wall plaque or a striped towel pack, how about a 3 piece bath accessory set with a leaf thistle design, or maybe I should get 30% off selected natural fibre co-ordinates and hang a single leaf wall plaque on the wall, just above my whitewash timber canisters with reversible inners. I could go and get me a chunky wooden frame perhaps a carved wooden frame, oh, what the fuck, I’ll get both. They’ll look nice in front of my Folkloric reactive stone vase that’s 50cm tall. There’s candle holders, even wall mounted candle holders, boxes. sheets, pillows, lamps, picture frames and framed pictures, then there’s the useful stuff like DVD players, toasters, kettles, irons, LCD TVs, phones, exercise equipment.
Wow. Its great to be able to buy so much stuff, that’s really nothing stuff. Its just things to put in your house. Most of it doesn’t really do very much. And who needs a toaster anyway.
Then, just after browsing the catalogue, I happen to glance at this article which describe how an Indian woman sold her baby to pay the hospital bill. The bill was $40. She sold her new born for $120. A nice little earner that.
So, here we have people living in poverty, so poor that she has to sell her child, while I sit on my loo browsing Target catalogues, looking at things I don’t need. Gives me the shits.
How about some of the truck full of money recently found in Canberra goes towards some one who acutally needs it. Or how about there be no charge for having a baby. It costs enough to raise them now.
How does it work anyway? I don’t mind paying my taxes. Stop laughing, I don’t mind, I’m more than happy to make sure that the roads are built you know, all that stuff. But, the money that the government is giving me is mine. I gave it to them first. Why the fuck can’t anyone budget any more. I always thought the aim of the game was to balance the budget, instead we have huge surpluses, as if that’s ok. Just take what you need, that’s all I ask. Then with the money in my pocket, the economy wouldn’t need so much stimulating. Me on the other hand enjoys a pocket full.
